The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents is the first book I've picked for this that I've read before. It's one of the first Discworld books I've read, and that was a few years ago now, so I'm looking forward to revisiting it. Anyone who knows me will know how much I appreciate the subject matter and research that Pratchett did for this book.
This is Pratchett's first Discworld aimed at a young adult audience, and I think those are even more delightful than their adult counterparts (although they're all great). The plot is self-contained, but keep in mind that the fabric of reality is very thin on the Discworld. Discworld is in fact a flat world on the backs of four elephants on the back of a giant turtle. Magic is real there and anything can exist if enough people believe in it (such as the gods and even death personified. Discworld Death is one of my favorite literary characters, but he has a small role in this book).
