"Diary of a Wimpy Kid"

So this month we are reading "Diary of A Wimpy Kid" along with "Diary of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules." You may also read the third and forth book if you wish which are: "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Do It Yourself Book," and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw."

I am an elementary education major so much of what I read is childrens literature. This is why I chose a graphic novel for children for our book this month. I like the idea of graphic novels for kids. My reasoning for this is that some kids dread, hate, won't read... anything. I think books that are more simple like these can motivate these kids to start a love of reading. Also many kids are visual learners and the graphic novel format is perfect for them.

I am interested to see what you all think about these books as I have heard differing opinions about them.
