Question for all you well read ladies!

Before I ask my question, I want to say that I am still finishing up Cider House Rules. Interesting book-rich characters, well written, lost of swearing and adult content obviously, but overall, I am enjoying the book and just excited to see what will become of these people Irving has written.

That being said, it is a new month and a new journey...this month is The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery. Cannot wait to start this book. With such a great intro from Natalie, I know it must be stellar!

Here's the question....I want some recommendations for children's books for boys. These can be picture books, chapter books, early chapter books, whatever you think of. I have thought of quite a few, but want to pool the resources of all you great ladies and get your recommendations as well. Please drop a comment or a new post to send out some books your boys have loved or that you think little guys might love and might get them excited to read!

I tutor a 10 year old boy and he has loved reading the Magic Tree House books.(lower chapter books for grades 1.5-3 or 4) We just branched out to another series that the librarian recommended to us called Zach Files. I have also bought him some scooby doo books. As far as picture books, I find books that are non fiction work really well. Boys seem to like learning about dinosaurs, the body, nature, animals, and anything gross like farting and burping. My husband loved the pick an adventure book when he was in grade school and I have tried that with some of my low reading middle school boys that I tutor and they seemed to like them ok. My high school boys who I tutor (also very low readers) love reading anything from Gary Paulson, start with "Hatchet" it is excellent. I also always see boys in elementary school picking up books like guinness world record books. I just think boys must really like facts.

I am struggling finding books for three boys that I tutor. I happened on this article today and thought it may answer your question a bit too. It is saying Catcher and the rye is a must read for boys. I think I am going to start reading that right away to see what it is about. Check out the article here:

It might sound crazy but ... Harry Potter? or Peter Pan? And Dave Barry wrote three prequels to Peter Pan called the Peter and the Starcatcher series - I hear they are wonderful. And the standards: Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Treasure Island, Robinson Crusoe ... and I'm always a fan of the Narnia series - perhaps the illustrated Swiss Family Robertson? Or (I do think a young boy would love the adventure if not the politics) Enders Game.
... old yeller? These are all "old school" books but I hope they still are of interest! :)
I hear the Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman is really good but it might be a bit scary - you should check it out first. Amazon has a trailer about it.
The Jungle book?
Just a few off the top of my head! :) xoxoxox

Also, if you liked the Golden Compass film, the book is even better and the 2nd book in the series is focused on a boy (Lyra meets him, but its really his story). The second book is called the Subtle Knife - I love all three of them in the series!
