Number the Stars

I have always felt this was one of those incredibly overlooked gems in the canon of WWII Holocaust literature. I love the way this book peels through the layers and fosters understanding in a way that even a child can perceive. I love this book! Now on to rereading The Giver!!

I agree mom. I have always been a bit obsessed with the whole holocost literature thing growing up. I love the stories of the brave people that fought that. It's why I loved that movie with Melanie Griffeths (help me out mom and Andrea-what was that called?). But, growing up, nobody ever even told me about this book and I had never even heard of it in my active searches of such books. It wasn;t until I took a children's lit class for my minor that I was first introduced to this book, and I love it. One of my favorite writing techniques is to place a fictional family or character in a real time and place/ event and let their story play out with the events. THis story does so beautifully. And the true parts of the story are seperated from the fiction at the end by the author for anyone interested...Love this book!
