Lately I find that the books I have been reading fall into one of two categories: books with interesting ideas/premises that are not written well, and books I am not too interested in the idea, but is well written and draws me in. Unfortunately, for me, this book fell into category one. I loved the idea of this book-the Sirens of Greek mythology are really just human girls serving the sea for a limited amount of time (100 years). Interesting. The rules and responsibilities of the life are well established and set out (with outs to the rules of course.)
A few of the issues I have with the book (which BTW helped me to realize that I am NOT in any way a romantic). First, and keep in mind this is coming from a girl that got engaged in 2 1/2 weeks, there is not a chance they are so attached to each other after a week that they cannot get over it. Seriously I could not buy that the guy is moping around over her still a year later-he gets over his parents' deaths ok, but cannot stand to lose the girl he met and knew for a week? What?! I tried to suspend my disbelief and let it go, but I am sorry I could not do it.
And the dialog in this book-whoa! So poorly written! Seriously, these people were familiar with each other and speaking in weird casual ways after like less than a day (and in the process of trying to make the conversations seem casual and comfortable, I found the dialogue to be sloppily written. I could not help but wonder if the book was even edited as there was more than one obvious mistake (like 2 and's in a row or very misspelled words). Did anyone else notice that?
OK-now that I have complained about a couple of the things I could not take, let me give you a couple things I really liked. As I said-I thought it was an interesting idea-in fact my mind is reeling-full of fun ideas for stories about these Sirens in the world that Cass has imagined out for us. I like the idea of this world for the Sirens-interesting.
My favorite character, from beginning to end was Aisling. Why, you may ask could you have liked her from the start? Well, I liked that she was independent, and I suspected that there was more to her story than we knew (this is confirmed near the end-I will not say more than that for those that have not finished).
I do not want to leave with the impression I hated this book-I did not hate it, but I was not a fan either. I felt like I was reading a rough draft of what could be a really good book, but was not there yet.
Obviously just my opinion, but what did the rest of you think?

But it's True Love!!! That cannot be stopped by fairy vampires or oceans or logic. It is all important, all consuming, and can be recognized in a glance. If you lose it, you may as well be dead.
